Saskatchewan Roughriders Take the Cup

I think like most fans I'm still in a bit of shock over the win! Our team dominated and it was an amazing conclusion to a nail-biting season.

To celebrate the win,  I want to share the audio tracks that are a part of the Inside/Outside Fan Exhibition.  Participants shared their passion for the game and love of the CFL.  Go Riders! Just click on the archive link below to listen to the audio.

The Big Picture

A loss is always difficult, especially for the team.  The game in Calgary this past weekend was challenging, our team played well.  Now it's time to look beyond the loss and think about the big picture, the Grey Cup.  Go Riders!

Another Win at Home

'The Labour Day Classic' H.M.Cline 2013 Acrylic/Canvas 26"x40"

It seems appropriate to have completed this painting just after another weekend home win by the Rider's.  We watched with great anticipation, expecting stiff competition from BC.  Our team made the win look easy!

Arc Line

'Warm Up-In/Out' H.Cline 2013 Acrylic/Panel 6" x 6"

A long precise pass is like a perfect arc across the sky.  Sometimes it seems like I see the line it leaves behind.  On Friday night Mr. Durant made several of these passes and it was a beautiful counterpoint to the running game with Mr. Sheets.  An intense game, a good win!

McCallum Karma

I have to admit that if we had to lose Sunday's game, McCallum was an appropriate evil specter from our past.  Who can forget the unforgivable behavior of SK Roughrider fans, when manure was spread on McCallum's yard (wait they couldn't even get the right house, his neighbour's lawn actually received the free fertilizer) after he missed a field goal causing an aching loss to BC in the 2004 play-off game.

So perhaps this is just karma and now that we have attained balance the Riders can go on to beat BC in their next encounter!

Fan by Foot

One of my favourite things about game day is the growing foot traffic as you near the stadium.  People of all ages and 'walks' of life heading to the stadium.

This is a Prairie Town

Football has a certain flavour on the prairies.  Somehow the sound of a freight train rumbling by in the middle of a play just seems appropriate.

Banjo Bowl Theory

I know that Sunday's game was a tad disappointing for Rider fans but let's put it in perspective.  Winnipeg desperately needed a win in their new stadium.  Frankly they've been playing well regardless of the Bombers current record.

Ideally we all would like to see a Winnipeg/Saskatchewan Grey Cup (not politically correct but wouldn't it be fun!!!).  So I believe Sunday's game was fate giving Winnipeg a chance.

The Big Game (no not the Banjo Bowl)

I'm still riding the high of the labour day classic!  What a great day for football.  The weather was perfect and the game, well what can a Saskatchewan fan say, it ended very well.

Don't be late for the game...

Thanks to Rider's Organization

A big thanks to Ryan Whippler.  We met at Mosaic Stadium today and he set me up for stadium wide documentation at the 'Labour Day Classic'.  Ryan is the Head of Communications for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a very busy guy at this time of year.  Turns out that we are both history buffs, so I was telling him about one of my favourite shots from the City of Regina Archives...

I got my tickets!

It's a little nerve wracking trying to find tickets to the labour day classic.  Sold out! Ticket ads posted on kjiji weeks in advance.  Texts go back and forth, tickets advertised 1 hour earlier disappear (although the ads are still lingering in cyberspace).  Our tickets come from a guy in Calgary, he's a season ticket holder.

Why can't he make the game, I didn't ask, but speculate- work, life, family obligation.  What makes a season ticket holder give up his ticket to the classic?  He transfers the tickets to me, trusting that I'll put a check in the mail.

You can tell he's excited about the game, he forwards an email ad for the 'Riderville Labour Day Caberet', 'you might be interested' he types.  I imagine he'll be thinking about us on the day of the game, from wherever he is watching the pale TV translation.
